Bake a Wish started in Austin In September 2009 with an original mission of providing free birthday cakes to abused/neglected/abandoned children and youth who would not otherwise receive one. Our very first delivery was to a young man for his 19th birthday. We received a thank you note from the agency, who said it was the very first birthday cake he’d ever received. Hard to comprehend, isn’t it? From that moment, we realized the importance of our mission.
With such an amazing mission, word about us spread rapidly. An article about us was featured in the Austin American-Statesman on 1/25/10, and News 8 Austin/Your News Now (YNN) featured a story about us on 1/26/11 which spurred our growth even further. We’ve also been featured in Edible Austin. As a result, we grew quickly and expanded our mission to also serve Austin’s elderly/disabled in affordable housing communities.
We now have about 100 volunteers and serve about 20 Austin-area agencies. Visit the Who We Serve page for more information about our recipients. Our agencies are grateful for our services since every dollar that they do not spend on things like birthday cakes can be spent on their clients’ other needs instead. Visit the Warm Fuzzies section of our web site to see their feedback.
We are an IRS-recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible!
